Mystery $31 million Powerball winner finally found!

Monday 13 May, 2013 - The hunt for the mystery multi-millionaire who won a staggering $31 million with an unregistered ticket in Powerball is over.

The winner, who wishes to remain completely anonymous, has come forward today to claim their multi-million dollar prize 10 days after the $60 million Powerball Jackpot draw.

NSW Lotteries spokesperson Belinda McDougall said the winner, who admitted they weren’t a regular player, was unaware they’d won until they checked the numbers on their entry.

“When I spoke to the winner on the telephone, they were flabbergasted!” Ms McDougall said.

“While they’ve asked to remain completely anonymous, the winner was happy to dispel the rumour that they were an Investment Banker.

“Because the winning ticket was not registered to a NSW Lotteries Players Club Card, NSW Lotteries hadn’t been able to contact the winner.

“Instead of being able to call to tell them of their new found wealth, we had to wait for the winner to contact us.

“NSW Lotteries always recommends customers register their entries to a NSW Lotteries Players Club Card as it ensures their prize is secure and we can contact them directly with news of a division one win.”

The winning $31 million unregistered entry in Powerball draw 885 was purchased at Chifley Arcade Newsagency, Shop 2 in Chifley Arcade, 4 Castlereagh Street, Sydney.

Powerball’s total division one prize pool of $62,055,383.40 was split between two entries in Victoria and New South Wales. Along with the unregistered entry purchased in Sydney’s CBD, a 15-member syndicate from the Melbourne suburb of Cheltenham claimed $2,071,012.92 each.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 885 on 2 May 2013 were 34, 37, 23, 10, 4, and 39 and the Powerball number was 20.
