Boom filly Overreach  is a red hot favourite for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday after drawing barrier one for the $3.5 million race. Her trainer Gai Waterhouse has won the event four times in the past twelve years and again has a strong representation in this year’s renewal, with Sweet Idea  and Whittington  joining the daughter of Exceed And Excel in the sixteen horse field. Since finishing second to Villa Verde  at Caulfield in October, Overreach has won her next two starts by a combined margin of 10.5 lengths to stamp her claim as the horse to beat in the Slipper.

Kiwi Group One winner Ruud Awakening  has won five or her six career starts and comes across the Tasman with a big reputation but wasn’t done any favours at the barrier draw where she drew the widest gate. Although the girls appear to be strong than the boys heading into the world’s richest juvenile race, Criterion  and Sidestep  will both have good chances after posting strong wins last time out. Criterion finished well to take out the Group Two Todman Stakes on March 23 and will have leading Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle, while Pago Pago Stakes winner Sidestep is one of three Darley runners engaged in the race.
