Playmaker Todd Carney returns for the Sharks  crucial round seven match against the Bulldogs  on Sunday afternoon, with both sides looking to move away from the bottom half of the table. Despite suffering their fourth straight loss with their 38-0 flogging at the hands of the Roosters in round six, coach Des Hasler has kept faith with the same team, meaning that Trent Hodkinson remains at halfback with Kris Keating still sidelined by injury.

1st Tryscorer

The Sharks have the second worst attacking record (only the Bulldogs have scored fewer points) in the NRL but one man that hasn’t had any trouble getting across the tryline is Nathan Stapleton . He has two tries from as many matches in 2013 and will look to capitalise on the more expansive style of play that his team is likely to employ with Carney back in the ranks.

Ben Barba  has scored just one try from his three NRL matches this season after making a late start to the campaign but a game against the Sharks could be just what he needs to find his best form. He has six tries from his past four matches against Cronulla.

Prediction

These teams have won just three matches between them in 2013 and neither has tasted success since March. While the Sharks will be boosted by the return of New South Wales playmaker Todd Carney, the Dogs haven’t been far away against some good teams this season and can register their 13th win from 16 matches between the clubs. Given that both teams have struggled to score points in 2013, this is likely to be a low scoring  match. Canterbury Bulldogs 1-12
