Mile specialist Shoot Out will be bidding for his fifth Group One win over a mile in the Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 20. The 2010 Randwick Guineas and AJC Derby winner has become one of the best middle distance horses in Australia since he was transferred to Chris Waller at the end of 2011 and is amongst the leading contenders for the Doncaster, having finished second to superstar mare More Joyous in the race twelve months ago. He began his campaign with a first up win in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm in March and appears fairly weighted for the Randwick feature on 57kg.
Last season’s champion juvenile Pierro and Bart Cummings multiple Group One winning filly Norzita fly the flag for the classic generation, with All Too Hard to wait for the All Aged Stakes a week later.
Emirates Stakes hero Happy Trails is another of the older horses being aimed at the race, alongside Toorak Handicap winner Solzhenitsyn and Guy Walter's smart mares Appearance and Streama . Appearance has been a revelation during the Autumn carnival winning both the Coolmore and Queen Of The Turf to take her tally of wins at the top level to three.
