Four time winner Tiger Woods  headlines a strong field set to tee off at the Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday night (AEST), with 54 of the top 58 players in the world golf rankings taking part in the event. Although Woods hasn’t won a major since his victory at the US Open in 2008, the world number one has returned to his best form in 2013 with three wins from the four stroke-play tournaments that he has contested, including the past two.

Bubba Watson  won his first green jacket last year after claiming a playoff against 2010 British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen  when both players finished 72 holes on -10, with three-time Masters winner Phil Mickelson  one of four players in a tie for third.

World number two Rory McIlroy  has struggled with new equipment in 2013 but returned to form with a final round 66 to finish as runner-up at the Texas Open last weekend. Scot Martin Laird  won that event to book his place in the 94 man field, which features only four Australian, the lowest representation since 2002.

Jason Day  and world number seven Adam Scott  finished in a tie for second at Augusta National in 2011 and will head the Australian charge, while John Senden  and Marc Leishman  also get a chance to share in the $8 million purse available for what is arguably the most prestigious event on the PGA calendar.
