Ranvet Stakes (SR6)
– Victoria Derby winner Fiveandahalfstar proved himself a genuine Group One Weight-For-Age (WFA) horse with his narrow second to Super Cool in the Australian Cup earlier this month and is an obvious contender for this event. His Melbourne form is lengths better than his Sydney form however and he is plenty short enough in the market. Silent Achiever ran on strongly in the Chipping Norton Stakes a fortnight ago to be beaten just over a length behind Shoot Out and will be better suited over 2000m here. Neither Gatewood nor Kelinni were pushed about in that event after a tough first up run on heavy going and will improve considerably, while lightly raced import Prince Cheri could also run a big race.
Selections: Silent Achiever, Gatewood, Fiveandahalfstar, Kelinni
Coolmore Classic (SR7) **TattsBet $96,431 Trifecta Jackpot**
- This race looks to be a very even contest with the handicap conditions meaning that there are numerous genuine winning chances. Legendary Kiwi galloper Sunline is the only winner to carry more than 56kg to victory in this event since 1987 so it may be best to side with those down in the weights. Appearance was well held by Steps In Time and Streama in the Wiggle Stakes last time out but could reverse that form with a step up in trip and turnaround in the weights. She won the Group One Myer Classic for fillies and mares during the Melbourne Cup carnival and will get a good run from gate two. Star Of Giselle has won four of her past six starts and appears well in just 1kg over the minimum weight on 53kg, while high class three year-olds Dear Demi and Norzita also appear to have strong chances.
Selections: Appearance, Norzita, Dear Demi, Star Of Giselle
Canterbury Stakes (SR8)
– Sydney’s two equine superstars meet in this event, with Gai Waterhouse pitting More Joyous and Pierro against each other. With a run already under his belt, Pierro could just shade his stablemate although stable jockey Nash Rawiller is aboard the eight time Group One winning mare. Peter Moody’s Moment Of Change , runner-up in the Newmarket last time out appears the most likely to upset the big two and looks perfectly suited over 1300m at his third run this prep. Rain Affair boasts a very good record and has trialled well after performing well below expectations during spring. He is more than capable of running into a place if back to his best.
Selections: Pierro, More Joyous, Moment Of Change, Rain Affair
