There is always plenty to play for in the North London derby between Tottenham  and Arsenal  but there will be added interest in the showdown at White Hart Lane in the early hours of Monday morning (AEST), with several interesting subplots going into the match. The White hot Spurs have gone eleven league matches without defeat on the back of some scintillating performances from Gareth Bale and can go a long way to extinguishing the Gunners top four hopes with a win.

Tottenham hasn’t lost in the Premier League since going down 2-1 to Everton on December 9 and has won three in a row since taking a point off champion-elect Manchester United last month. Much of Spurs recent success can be attributed to the heroics of Welsh star Gareth Bale, who has scored nine goals in his past seven matches. He scored a spectacular last minute goal in his side’s 3-2  win over West Ham during the week to lift Tottenham to third on the table.

Arsenal snapped a two game losing run with its 2-1  win against Aston Villa last weekend and will see this as massive game in terms of what they get out of the season. On the brink of elimination from Europe and unable to catch runaways leaders United in the League, the Gunners can close the gap on their fierce rivals to a point with victory and could even sneak into the top four if other results go their way. Bacary Sagna is expected to return after missing the game against Villa with a knee injury and will have the job on Bale.

The Gunners have won the past two North London derbies 5-2  but come up against a Spurs outfit that could hardly be in better form and will be determined to beat Arsene Wenger’s men for the first time since 2011.
