The Rabbitohs  and Dragons  complete their preparations for the 2013 NRL season when they do battle in the 30th annual Charity Shield match at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night. Both teams will be looking for a win after suffering pre-season defeats last weekend, with Souths going down to the Knights 18-6 in Coffs Harbour and the Dragons suffering a 28-22 loss to the Cowboys in Cairns.

Michael Maguire has named Broncos recruit Ben Te’o for his first appearance in the red and green after he missed last week’s match against Newcastle for disciplinary reasons, while Dylan Farrell and Andrew Everingham also return. Jeff Lima and Matt King are amongst the players unavailable for Souths.

Representative prop Michael Weyman lines up for the first time this year, but the Dragons have been dealt a blow with utility Bronx Goodwin likely to be sidelined for four months after tearing a pectoral muscle against North Queensland.

1st Tryscorer - With  Nathan Merritt dropped for this match, former Bulldogs winger Bryson Goodwin  gets his first chance to impress for the Rabbitohs on the big stage. After rupturing his spleen last season and spending much of the year on the sidelines, Goodwin will be determined to make the most of his opportunity.

Matt Cooper  was on the scoresheet for the Dragons in their loss to the Cowboys last weekend and is sure to pose a threat to the Rabbitohs defence on Saturday night. He scored in both of his sides last two matches in 2012 and was on the scoresheet in this fixture twelve months ago.

Match Prediction – Although they haven’t won a Charity Shield match since 2009, the Rabbitohs deserve favouritism for this match and look to have their opponent covered in most areas. Jamie Soward and Nathan Fien are still working on their combination in the halves following the retirement of Ben Hornby, while Souths has a more settled lineup at this early stage of the season. Souths 1-12
