After coming so close to winning the World Superbike title in 2012, Briton Tom Sykes will be looking to get the 2013 season off to the best possible start at Phillip Island on Sunday. The 25 year-old finished just 0.5 points behind Italian Max Biaggi in the season long championship and will be determined to go one better this season.
Spaniard Carlos Checa has tasted success here in the past and shapes as Sykes’ biggest rival this weekend. The Ducati rider won three of the opening four races last season and has also been victorious in three of the four Superbike races that he has contested at Phillip Island. Italian Marco Melandri appears to be the other leading contender, while Glenn Allerton and Jamie Stauffer will fly the flag for the host nation.
