South Australia gets another chance to qualify for the Ryobi Cup final when they it faces New South Wales for the second time in four days on Sunday. After opening the tournament with four wins from their opening five matches and looking certain to finish in the top two, the Redbacks have slumped to back-to-back defeats that leave them in danger of missing out on a berth in the decider.
Callum Ferguson and Kane Richardson were the best performers for South Australia in their teams 56 run defeat in Sydney on Thursday but will both be unavailable for the return match in Adelaide after being selected to represent Australia ‘A’ against the England Lions. With Phil Hughes with the Test team in India and Ferguson unavailable, Redbacks coach Darren Berry will be hoping for more from his senior batsman Michael Klinger and Daniel Christian, who scored just 26 between them at the SCG.
Although they are unable to reach the final, New South Wales goes into this match full of confidence, having shown improved form since the competition resumed at the end of January. Two of the Blues three wins have come in the past week with unheralded squad members David Dawson, Gurinder Sandhu and Adam Zampa making the most of their opportunities in the absence of six Australian representatives. Ben Rohrer is unavailable after being drafted into the ‘A’ squad as a replacement for Adam Voges, but Brad Haddin could play after being a late withdrawal during the week.
