Brisbane Roar has lost just three games so far in the A-League and two of those defeats have come against Newcastle . It’s a big reason why the Jets are part of a logjam of teams occupying third to sixth place on the table. After a sluggish start to the season, the Jets have now won five of their last seven starts and that run started with a 2-1 victory in Adelaide , the venue for the Novacastrians’ match on Sunday.

The Reds, too, struggled out of the blocks and at one stage went eight games where they picked up just three points. They seem to be finding their feet now and followed up their thumping 4-0 win over Central Coast by coming away from a trip to Perth with a point after holding Glory to a scoreless draw.

Adelaide has had its injury worries of late with Portuguese winger Fabio Ferreira missing last week’s clash due to an adductor problem, while Daniel Bowles has been out since round two due to a serious ankle injury; both could play this weekend. Spanish forward Sergio Cirio should also return to the starting side after he was on the bench due to an undisclosed problem in the west.

The Reds have won just one of their past eight clashes with Newcastle, but their home record is solid and they’ve scored 11 of their 16 goals this campaign at Coopers Stadium. There have been three scoreless draws in the past 10 matches between the teams.
