Shane Mosley has won just three of his last eight bouts, but that’s coming up against the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr, Manny Pacquiao, Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. Anthony Mundine has won four of his last six, but one of those losses came against ex-footballer Garth Wood and the other when he was outclassed by Daniel Geale in their IBF Middleweight Title fight in January.
It shows that, even against a 42-year-old opponent, Mundine will need to step up if he’s to match it with the man known as ‘Sugar’ in their WBA Light Middleweight title fight on Wednesday night. Mosley last fought in May when he was an impressive decision over promising young Mexican Pablo Cesar Cano in enemy territory.
Mosley still has brilliant hand speed but his defence isn’t what it used to be. Mundine is an athlete, through and through, and should be looking to take this fight the distance. ‘Choc’ has been sparring with David Estrada, who lost on points against Mosley in his prime back in 2005. The American - who has also been in camp previously with the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Zab Judah and Kostya Tszyu – declared Mundine up to the challenge and he said the three-time World Champion is amongst the world’s best right now.
