Caulfield Racing Preview - November 16

*Caulfield will host the annual Sandown Guineas and Zipping Classic meeting on Saturday due to resurfacing of the Sandown track.

Zipping Classic (MR6) - Bart Cummings’ Precedence backs up yet again after winning the Queen Elizabeth at Flemington last Saturday and will be able to settle close from barrier four. Precedence fought hard to hold off the fast-finishing Sertorius whose jockey Ryan Maloney failed to convince stewards to uphold his protest for alleged interference at the 200m mark. Promising Sydney trainer Sam Kavanagh saddles up import Midsummer Sun who finished a gallant 2nd off a slow tempo in last Saturday’s Cup Day Plate behind the highly rated Salon Soldier. Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Gai Waterhouse has predicted pace-setter Queenstown, who steps up to open grade for the first time in her career.

Selections: Midsummer Sun , Sertorius , Queenstown , Precedence

Sandown Guineas (MR7) - Kerrin McEvoy’s stellar Spring Carnival has a big chance to continue when he rides Paximadia in the $350,000 Sandown Guineas. Paximadia led all the way to defeat Hucklebuck in the Carbine Club last start and looks well placed for the Darley team at set-weight conditions. Sydney gelding Equator is likely to lead from a wide alley and should get every chance when reunited with Nash Rawiller for the first time this preparation. Apollo’s Choice follows a different form line leading into the race after finishing a close fourth behind Dothraki in last Saturday’s Springtime Stakes and is every chance of improving on that performance when he steps up to the mile for the first time.

Selections: Paximadia , Apollo’s Choice , Equator , Gabble

Heffernan Stakes (MR 8) - Dual Group one winner Platelet was scratched from last Saturday’s VRC Sprint on the advice of stewards for an incorrect stable return and is set to explode here. She boasts a formidable record of six wins and one second from nine starts over 1200m and will be suited by the sting out of the ground at Caulfield. Famous Seamus travels south for Hawkesbury trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith after adding another listed race to his tally winning last month’s Tatts Lightning at Randwick. Lightly raced mare Lonhspresso had no luck in transit when she flew home for fifth in the Yellowglen Stakes and will get every chance from barrier three with Ben Melham on board. Pago Rock has had a long preparation yet continues to feature prominently and is every chance of causing an upset.

Selections: Platelet , Pago Rock , Famous Seamus , Lonhspresso

Summoned Stakes (MR 9) - Chris Waller is well poised for further Spring glory with She’s Clean set to run a short-price favourite, however, she steps up to the mile for the first time in her career after a fast-finishing third behind Pluck Belle in the Maybe Mahal. Wistful steps back to the mile where she has recorded two wins and a third from three starts but will have to negotiate a tough alley off a solid tempo. Peter Moody has had a quiet Spring Carnival by his standards yet has a good chance to change his fortunes with Floria third up this preparation after two solid performances in Group races. Country visitor Evie Rose easily defeated her opposition when she won the China Bowl at Ararat last weekend and can dictate the speed up front from gate ten.

Selections: Wistful , She’s Clean , Evie Rose , Floria
