Benchmark 90 Handicap (BR6)
– Mr Light Blue is stepping up to his preferred trip following a solid effort in the Bernborough last week and looks capable of winning this event. He has won twice and been placed once from three attempts at this trip and also loves the open spaces at Eagle Farm, where he has won on three occasions and been finished in the first three another five times in 13 starts. Although Danagaze meets him better at the weights for finishing three lengths closer to the winner, the latter doesn’t race as well at Eagle Farm and may not relish the additional 500m here like Mr Light Blue. Mukaddamah Son won well here on Boxing Day and drops considerably in weight, while Carry Me Bluey is the class runner in the field.
Selections: Mr Light Blue, Danagaze, Mukaddamah Son, Carry Me Bluey
Open Handicap (BR7)
– Garozzo scored a strong win here on Boxing Day and has legitimate class to follow that success up with another. The bold front runner has won both of his past two starts and a rise in the weights is offset by the fact that he has drawn the inside gate. What Happenedhenry was beaten only narrowly by Garozzo last time out and again represents the biggest danger, although this trip stretches his stamina. Primed has been running well in better races than this and will again be in the finish, while Purfectress is probably the best of the rest.
Selections: Garozzo, Primed, What Happenedhenry, Purfectress
NMW Handicap (BR8) **TattsBet $133,045 Trifecta Jackpot**
- Arctic has always been well regarded and is starting to realise his potential after racing in black type races during the Brisbane Winter carnival against the likes of Mental and Brambles. His last start victory when he came from well back in the field to score was very impressive and a repeat performance would see him win again. No Win No Wine has won three in a row and is on an upward spiral, while three year-old filly Stolen Kisses will give this race a shake if she gets a run as first emergency. The form from the race in which Calculation ran third to Delago Pilli looks very good and he isn’t without a chance, while the same can be said of Denwood, who carries 5kg less than he did at his last start.
Selections: Arctic, Calculation, Stolen Kisses, No Win No Wine
