Australia’s batsmen will need to lift a gear if they are a chance of challenging Sri Lanka in their 2nd and final T20 match on Monday night. Despite a 90 not out from opener David Warner, the Australian middle order struggled to gain momentum against an economic Sri Lankan bowling attack. The Aussies limped to just 137 runs after electing to bat on a slow ANZ Stadium wicket. The Sri Lankan’s easily reached the tally with more than an over remaining on the back of an unbeaten 35 from inform batsmen Angelo Matthews.
Sri Lanka’s win was anchored by impressive figures by Lasith Malinga who went for just 19 runs off his four over spell. A disappointing Australian team will need better performances at the top of the order by Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh who both had impressive domestic seasons with the bat.
