Paul Beshara is dreaming big with his stable star Happy Trails , after the gelding claimed the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley. The victory was the five year olds second from three starts this campaign and has given connections enough confidence to believe that they can be competitive in the Cox Plate at the track on October 27. Having left Caulfield Cup placegetter Green Moon and last year’s Cox Plate 3rd Rekindled Interest in his wake, it is no surprise that the son of Good Journey has been the best backed runner for the October 27 feature event ($21 from $101).
Love For Ransom , having just her second race start, was a big mover in the Thousand Guineas market ($51 into $6) following an ultra-impressive win over 1200m at Moonee Valley. Jockey Glen Boss declared “she’ll be winning the Thousand Guineas” after the race and with boom filly Nechita unlikely to head there, the Greg Eurell trained filly appears to be a leading contender.
TattsBet also has a market open for the Epsom Handicap at Randwick, where former Queensland galloper Shoot Out is the favourite. Fat Al and Ambidexter firmed from $17 into $10 and $35 into $26 respectively for that event after fighting out the finish in the Group 2 Sebring Sprint on their reappearances and will be aimed at the contest over the Randwick Mile on October 6. Velrosso scored a fast finishing win over 1200m on the same card to enhance his chances of getting in to the race ($41 into $17).
Golden Rose winner Epaulette burst into Caulfield Guineas contention following his victory in the first Group One race of the new season and could prove the main challenger to unbeaten galloper Pierro . Epaulette has come closest to beating the Golden Slipper winner, having gone down by just a short-half-head to Gai Waterhouse’s charge in the Todman Stakes in March.
