Sri Lanka and India meet in a one-off Twenty20 international in Pallekelle on Tuesday, with both teams looking to build some momentum heading into the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Sri Lanka next month. There was little between the teams in the recently concluded 50 over series, with India narrowly winning the fifth and final match to clinch a 3-2 series win, and little is likely to change in the shortest form of the game.
Dinesh Chandimal will retain the gloves for the hosts with Kumar Sangakkara still nursing a broken finger and will need a score after managing just 55 runs in five innings during the ODI series. Alongside the dangerous opening partnership of Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan , Sri Lanka has enough batting power to worry the visitors.
With both Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan having returned home, India is likely to give Ajinkya Rahane and Ashok Dinda a chance to press their case for selection in their World Cup squad. Virat Kohli will be looking to continue his rich vein of form which has seen him score five centuries in his past nine ODI matches.
Sri Lanka has won both of the T20 matches – against Australia in 2011 - that they have played at this ground and won the last time that these sides met, at the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.
