Despite losing to Geelong last weekend, Adelaide are still flying high on the competition ladder and can secure a place in the top two with a win over a faltering Essendon outfit. Their loss to the Cats was just the fourth defeat that they have suffered in 2012, and with and with a relatively easy run home, Adelaide will be confident of getting back to winning ways. Sam Jacobs was dearly missed after being a late withdrawal last week and his return is a huge boost for the Crows.
While the Crows continue to fly high, Essendon is starting to fade. Heavy defeats to St Kilda, Geelong and Hawthorn in the past month have seen the Bombers slip to eighth and they are in serious danger of missing the finals.
Where It Will be Won
– Scott Thompson and Jobe Watson are the two Brownlow medal favourites and their battle in the midfield is sure to be a highlight of this match. Both players see plenty of the ball and whichever player can make best use of it at the stoppages is sure to give their team a big advantage. Having been under some doubt for this match as he waited to see if he would be suspended by the match review panel for his bump on Steve Johnson last weekend, Thompson will be determined make a mark on this match.
– Essendon may have recorded a rare victory over Adelaide at AAMI Park in round 17 last year when winning 84-73 but a repeat of that result seems highly unlikely, especially with Dustin Fletcher and Brent Stanton ruled out. Adelaide 40+
