New West Bromich Albion manager Steve Clarke had a baptism of fire to start the season, with matches against Liverpool and Spurs to kick off his team's campaign. The Baggies have come through with flying colours, though, posting a stunning 3-0 win against the Reds before taking a point away from White Hart Lane.
Everton has possibly been even more impressive. A 1-0 win over Manchester United, followed up by a 3-1 dismissal of Aston Villa sees the Toffees as one of only three teams to take maximum points from all their games so far, along with Chelsea and Swansea.
Everton possess the biggest threat in this match, with man mountain Marouane Fellaini dominating its opening two matches with his physical presence and sublime passing game. The Belgian was a record transfer signing four years ago, and he’s now showing he was worth every penny, especially with Tim Cahill and Jack Rodwell no longer at Goodison Park. If WBA can’t stop the big man with the big ‘fro, then they’ll struggle to keep their unbeaten record intact.
In other matches, Fulham has suffered a blow with the midweek departure of another Belgian, midfielder Moussa Dembele, to Tottenham. They travel across London to West Ham where the home side will be looking to make amends after being smacked by Swansea last weekend.
In another intriguing clash, Manchester City hosts Queens Park Rangers. Just a few short months ago, City claimed the Premier League crown in almost unbelievable circumstances against QPR at Etihad Stadium – the home side scoring two goals in stoppage time to wrest the title from their bitter crosstown rivals. Former City manager Mark Hughes would love to see his Rangers side cause a massive boilover, and the Hoops have been buoyed this week by the signing of Brazil international ‘keeper Julio Cesar from Inter Milan.
