After opening its tour of the UAE with a 66 run win over Afghanistan on the weekend, Australia faces its first real test against Pakistan on Tuesday. With the weekend's victory being just Australia's second from their past eight completed One Day Internationals, they have surprisingly opted to change the team around, with Dan Christian coming into the XI at the expense of spinner Xavier Doherty for this match. After scoring 75 runs opening the batting at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, wicketkeeper Matthew Wade but could be shifted down the order with fears over his workload in the oppressive conditions. Captain Michael Clarke has opened with success in the past and could fill that role again, while Michael Hussey is another option at the top of the order.
Controversial wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal returns to the Pakistan squad for the first time in more than a year and could partner Mohammad Hafeez at the top of the order. Veterans Younis Khan and Umar Gul have been left out in order to give some younger players a chance to press their claims for the World T20 next month.
Australia has won nine of the past eleven 50 over matches between the sides, but Pakistan won the most recent clash, at the World Cup in Sri Lanka last year.
