The 1st Test between India  and New Zealand  starts in Hyderabad on Thursday, with the host looking to redeem itself after going down 4-0 to Australia at the start of the year. That was the last time that India played a five day game and there have been big changes made to their side since then. Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman have retired from international cricket and their places in the side are likely to be taken by Cheteshwar Pujara  and Suresh Raina , who will be under intense scrutiny replacing the two greats.

New Zealand will be without injured former skipper Daniel Vettori, who suffered a groin injury in the 2-0 series defeat to the West Indies earlier in the month. After scoring a career high 225 opening the batting on the last tour of India, Brendon McCullum  will partner Martin Guptill at the top of the order in a new look batting lineup. Kane Williamson  is likely to bat at three, while James Franklin  could be recalled to the side.

Only one previous Test match has been played at this ground, with the 2010 meeting between these sides here ending in a draw .
