World number one Rory McIlroy will be bidding for a third tournament win in 2012 when he contests The Barclays, starting at the Bethpage Black on Thursday. The 23 year-old has collected his second major when finishing PGA Championships by a record breaking margin of eight strokes earlier this month and is hitting the ball as well as anyone.
Defending champion Dustin Johnson is also in the lineup having already claimed the St Jude Classic this year, while Matt Kuchar is another player with a good record at the event, having finished second in 2011 after winning twelve months earlier. Tiger Woods will have fond memories of the course having won the 2002 US Open here, while Phil Mickelson finished second in the both of the US Open’s at Bethpage Black.
Adam Scott leads the nine strong Australian contingent, that also includes in-form Rod Pampling and Travelers Championship victor Marc Leishman .
