Feature Race Preview 11th August

Aurie’s Star Handicap (MR6)**TattsBet $99,530 Trifecta Jackpot** - Golden Archer looks tough to beat in this race, having scored an effortless first up win here three weeks ago. He is unbeaten down the Flemington straight and looks open to further improvement. Zamorar has run well in Weight For Age (WFA) races at his past two starts and will be much better suited to this contest where he is on the minimum weight. Balzeus has a good record second up (2 wins from 3 starts) and did enough on his reappearance to suggest that he can be in the finish, while Green Birdie could be ready to fire at his third run back from a spell. Midas Touch and Seville represent leviathan owner Llyod Williams and it will be interesting to see how they perform with a view to the spring feature races.
Selections: Golden Archer, Zamorar, Balzeus, Green Birdie

Missile Stakes (SR6) – This race looks like a perfect starting point for Pinwheel, with the Darley galloper well suited by the WFA conditions. His fourth with a big weight in the Group one Stradbroke Handicap during the Brisbane winter carnival is much better form than any of his rivals can boast and he is more than capable of putting in a big run fresh. He has 2 wins and a minor placing from four races at Warwick Farm and excels of this distance, which he has won over on eight separate occasions. Title ran well enough in the autumn to suggest that he is capable of running well against a limited field here, as is Centennial Park. His first up run behind Rain Affair during his last preparation was full of merit and it wouldn’t surprise if he went well again this time around. Welkom Gold looks the next best chance.
Selections: Pinwheel, Centennial Park, Title, Welkom Gold

Spring Stakes (AR7) –Southern Speed begins her Caulfield Cup defence in this race, where the five year old mare will be tough to beat. She is easily the best horse in the race, is well in under the WFA conditions and is the one to beat, despite the fact that she will be better over more ground. Victorian galloper Gossip Girl is racing in fine form and could get an easy lead in a race devoid of genuine pace. She is probably the biggest danger to the favourite. Happy Trails is sure to be running on strongly at the finish, while Light Express has been impressive winning all three starts this preparation, although this is a big step up in class.
Selections: Southern Speed, Gossip Girl, Light Express, Happy Trails
