Friday 6 July, 2012 - A retired couple from the Somerville area were elated when they discovered they’d won over $1 million in Saturday’s TattsLotto $30 million Mid-Year Megadraw!
The winning woman said the $1.25 million share of the prize pool came as a remarkable shock to the pair.
“We’ve been floating on air since we checked those numbers, our feet still haven’t touched the ground!” she exclaimed.
While the couple appreciates the amount they’ve won, they don’t plan to spend it frivolously.
“We’ve already been talking to an accountant who’s given us some great advice,” she said.
“We’re pretty down to earth, sensible people, so first of all we plan to invest the money and live off the interest."
“We already have a modest home that we’re comfortable in, so we’ll only splash out on a holiday later this year."
The couple said they now feel a sense of relief when they think about their future.
“This money has given us peace of mind that if either of us fall into ill health then there are funds available for treatment,” the winning woman said.
“We’re also happy that if we invest wisely we’ll have something to leave to our children.”
The winning QuickPick entry was purchased from Somerville Newsagency, Shop 24 in Somerville Plaza.
As the winning ticket was not registered to a Tatts Card holder, Tatts had no way of contacting the winner after the draw to tell them the good news.
Throughout Australia 24 winners shared the $30 million division one prize pool in Saturday’s TattsLotto Mid-year Megadraw. Nine winning tickets were sold in Victoria, six in New South Wales, four in South Australia, three in Queensland and two in Western Australia.
The winning numbers in Saturday TattsLotto draw 3229 were 40, 37, 30, 33, 32 and 8 with the supplementary numbers 14 and 34. There were also 227 division two winners who took home $8,548.70 each.
