Fernando Alonso will be out to build on last week’s win in Germany when he contests the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on Sunday. The two time world champion has been in great form recently, with his victory at the Hockenheimring his third of the season and second in the past three races. Alonso captured the first win of his Formula One career here in 2003, but has failed to win the event since, although he has been on the podium in each of the past two years.
Recent races around the Hungaroring have been dominated by Britons, with Jenson Button (2006 & 2011) and Lewis Hamilton (2008 & 2009) winning four of the past six between them. Their McLarens have been slightly off the pace recently however, with just one podium finish since Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix at the start of June.
Australian Mark Webber and his Red Bull Racing teammate Sebastian Vettel are likely to pose the biggest challengers to Alonso, with Webber having tasted success here in 2010. Vettel will be determined to win here with the race being one of the only ones on the Formula One calendar to have eluded him.
