Super Rugby Week 18

The Queensland Reds  face the NSW Waratahs  at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night knowing that realistically, only a four-try bonus point win will be enough to keep them in the hunt for a finals berth. Even if they do manage to beat the Waratahs and score four tries in the process, Ewen McKenzie’s side will still be relying on other results to go their way to ensure they keep their title defence alive.

Following last week’s hard fought 19-13 win over the Highlanders, QLD has won five games on the trot and are arguably the form team in the competition. In direct contrast, the Waratahs haven’t won since April and their four point loss to the Brumbies on Saturday night was their seventh in succession.

Wallabies winger Digby Ioane young gun Liam Gill return from injury for the Reds, while Australian representatives Rob Simmons and Beau Robinson will also play after overcoming injury concerns. Sitaleki Timani replaces Wycliff Paul in a Waratahs team that includes former Reds Drew Mitchell and Berrick Barnes.

When these sides met at ANZ Stadium in the opening round of the season, Queensland winger Dom Shipperley raced 75m to score a try after the siren to give his side a 25-21 victory.
