Tuesday 10 July, 2012 - More than two weeks after they won a first division share of Saturday Gold Lotto, a Brisbane couple has finally come forward to claim their $707,692.23 prize!
As the ticket was unregistered, Golden Casket had no way of contacting the winners to tell them the good news following the draw.
“It’s unbelievable,” the winning woman said.
“You hear about it happening to other people but you never really expect it to happen to you!
“It’s unusual that I didn’t register the ticket to my Winners Circle Card this time, if I had I would have heard from Golden Casket sooner.
“I’m pleased I finally went back into the newsagency to have them check my ticket!”
The winning woman said she had a feeling she’d win a first division prize this year.
“To me, it’s like third time lucky,” she said.
“Some time ago I won around $1,000 in Gold Lotto, then I won $1,300."
“I believe in fate so I felt that we would win a bigger prize soon after that.”
The winning man said they’ve already started thinking about how to spend their windfall.
“It will certainly come in handy!” he said.
“We’ve already celebrated the good news with some champagne.”
The winning entry was purchased from Supanews Brisbane Square on Queen Street, Brisbane.
The win on 23 June came exactly one month after Supanews Brisbane Square sold a Wednesday Gold Lotto first division winning ticket worth over $1 million in draw 3218 on 23 May. An inner city worker won the Wednesday Gold Lotto prize and planned to treat herself to an overseas holiday.
The Brisbane winner from Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3227 on 23 June 2012 was one of six division one winners nationally, with three in Queensland, two in Victoria and one in Tasmania. The winning numbers in draw 3227 were 29, 2, 31, 19, 30 and 16 with supplementary numbers 11 and 10. There were also 88 division two winners who took home $6,548.00 each.
