World number one Novak Djokovic  takes on sixteen time Grand slam champion Roger Federer  in the French Open semi-finals on Friday. Both players came through tough five set quarter-final matches, with Djokovic ousting home crowd favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in an epic clash that lasted more than four hours, while Federer came from two sets down to win against Juan Martin Del Potro.

Twelve months ago, the pair did battle at the same stage of the tournament with the Swiss ace ending the Serbs 43 match unbeaten streak with a four set win . Overall, Federer holds a 14-11 career advantage over Djokovic, although the world number one has won five of the past six meetings between the pair. When they did battle in the Rome Masters on clay last month, Djokovic won in straight sets .

The other semi-final sees clay court king Rafael Nadal  face compatriot David Ferrer . Six time French Open champion Nadal hasn’t dropped a set at Roland Garros this year and has lost only once in Paris during his career.
