NSW coach Ricky Stuart has named inform Penrith prop Tim Grant to make his State of Origin debut for NSW against QLD on Wednesday, 13th June. Grant will start for NSW in a ploy to add much needed punch to the NSW pack, skipper Paul Gallen returns to his favoured lock forward position forcing a reshuffle in the back row with Luke Lewis relegated to the bench. Manly’s Anthony Whatmough replaces injured teammate Tony Williams on the interchange bench.
QLD selectors remained loyal to the playing group that defeated NSW in game one, picking the same squad that was successful in Melbourne. Sam Thaiday has been ruled out of the match with a shoulder injury however, and has been replaced by Broncos teammate Corey Parker. NSW squared the series in Sydney last year with an 18-8 win on the back of 27 hit-ups and 31 tackles from inspirational skipper Paul Gallen and will need to win in Sydney if they are to put any chance of ending QLD’s six consecutive series winning streak.
