Tuesday 5 June, 2012 - After more than a week, a Mt Waverley family has come forward to claim their first division prize of over half a million dollars from last Saturday’s TattsLotto draw 3219 on 26 May.
The winner is not a regular player so the division one prize of $539,405.89 came as a complete surprise to her.
“When I went into the newsagent to have my ticket checked a week after the draw I didn’t realise the mystery unregistered winner that Tatts had been looking for was me!” she exclaimed.
“I was so happy when I heard the news.”
The winner and her family already have a few plans for how to spend their windfall.
“We plan to buy a home with the money,” the winner said.
“We won’t be splurging on anything like holidays, but we will share the win with family.”
The winning entry was purchased from Upper Ferntree Gully Authorised News in Ferntree Plaza.
The owner of Upper Ferntree Gully Authorised News, Ward Palecek, said he had been reminding all of his customers to check their tickets from last weekend’s draw.
“We have a lot of regulars come through the store but because we’re on a train line, we also have a number of commuters and people stopping to do their shopping in the centre,” he said.
“We’ve owned the store for 21 years and it’s been a while between major wins so it’s quite exciting for the staff as well as our customers.
“We’re very pleased the winner has come forward and that they’re a local family.”
There were eight division one winners nationally in Saturday TattsLotto draw 3219 on 26 May 2012 who each claimed more than half a million dollars. There were three division one winning entries purchased in Victoria, with another two in Queensland, two in South Australia and one in Western Australia.
One of the winning tickets purchased in Shepparton will allow a man to recover from mounting debt, while another winner in Melbourne’s northern suburbs will use the money to ease into retirement at 70-years-old.
The winning numbers were 13, 38, 36, 37, 10 and 22 with supplementary numbers 28 and 42. There were also 61 division two winners who took home $9,594.55 each.
