Sunshine Coast Racing Preview 30th June

Sunshine Coast Guineas (BR5) – Double Impact has been racing consistently throughout the winter carnival and can earn a well-deserved win in this contest. He finished third behind smart Darley galloper Mental at his last start and was less than a length and a half behind subsequent group one scorer Pear Tart at his previous run. He will relish the heavy going and is the obvious top pick. Dollario ran third in a group one behind Rock ‘n’ Pop four starts ago and looks well suited here despite struggling at his last start, while Venture On and Ametsis are also worth considering. Excellent Dane has a great record at the track and will relish the mud, so has to be included despite facing a big leap in class.
Selections: Double Impact, Dollario, Excellent Dave, Ametsis

Glasshouse Handicap (BR6) – Belltone has been racing well and is arguably unlucky to have only won the Eye Liner this time in. He appears to be the one to beat but is unproven on the very testing ground that runners will face at Caloundra. Jetset Lad has been racing well, has group one form and will go on the rain affected track so it is hard to leave him out but there has to be a query on his ability to back up for the third week in a row. Pepperwood and Meet George won’t be inconvenienced by the heavy going and look well placed here, with the latter having run second to subsequent group one winner Woorim in this last year. Despite being hard to catch, Phelan Ready must be considered stepped down considerably in class. His Golden Slipper win in 2009 came on a heavy track.
Selections: Jetset Lad, Meet George, Belltone, Phelan Ready

Caloundra Cup (BR7) – Shenzhou Steeds was impressive in winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas on this day twelve months ago and can continue his love affair with Queensland (4/4 in the sunshine state) by taking out this race. His win in the Ipswich Cup was good and connections are adamant that he will run out a strong 2400m. Roi D’Jeu is a genuine stayer and will appreciate the slog of this contest after running second in the 3200m Stayers Cup in Sydney last time out, while Za Magic is another that will appreciate the going. Spechenka won this last year and warrants respect, as does Anudjawun, who is sure to be finishing well.
Selections: Shenzhou Steeds, Roi D’Jeu, Za Magic, Anudjawun
