Rafael Nadal  will bid for a recording breaking seventh title at Roland Garros when the French Open starts on May 27. The Spaniard defeated Roger Federer  in last year’s final to join Bjorn Borg on six victories at the second Grand Slam of the year, having also been crowned champion from 2005-2008 and in 2010. The only player to have broken Nadal’s stranglehold on the event is Roger Federer, who has also finished runner-up to the clay court king on four occasions.

World number one Novak Djokovic  defeated Nadal in the Australian Open final earlier in the year and will be looking to win the event for the first time, while 2009 US Open champions Juan Martin Del Potro  and British ace Andy Murray  are amongst the other chances.

In the Women’s event, world number one Victoria Azarenka  will bid to for her second grand slam of the year after winning the Australian Open in January, while last year’s victor Li Na  is another of the leading chances. American veteran Serena Williams  showed that she will be a force to be reckoned with in winning the Madrid Masters earlier this month, while Sam Stosur  will bid to go one better than she did in 2010 when she was runner-up.
