World number 28 Bernard Tomic  faces Slovakian Lukas Lacko  in the 1st round of the Nice Open tonight, looking to find some form heading into the French Open which starts next week. The nineteen year old Australian has struggled to win of late, losing his first match at the Madrid Masters to Radek Stepanek and bowing out of the event in Rome last week at the hands of Novak Djokovic in the 2nd round. The pair has never met in an ATP event, but did clash in a qualifier on the hardcourt at Delray Beach last year. On that occasion Lacko was a surprise winner in straight sets, but Tomic has matured as a player and should be too good for the Slovak on the clay court this time around.

Fellow Australian Matthew Ebden  faces a tougher task in his first match of the tournament, where he is up against former world number three Nikolay Davydenko . Not only has Ebden lost the only match between the pair – a straight sets defeat in Washington last year- but he has also failed to win a match on clay this season.
