Star Queensland galloper Buffering  will be out to break his group one hoodoo when he lines up in the BTC Cup at Doomben on May 12. The Rob Heathcote trained gelding has won nine of his 24 career starts but is yet to break through at the top level. If it wasn’t for superstar sprinters Black Caviar and Hay List, Buffering would have four Group one wins but he gets his best chance to breakthrough in their absence here.

The BTC Cup is the feature event on the opening weekend of the Brisbane Winter Carnival, with the Doomben Cup to be run on May 19 and the Doomben 10 000 on May 26. The carnival then moves to Eagle Farm for the Queensland Oaks on June 2 before a bumper card for the Stradbroke Handicap on June 9, which also features the Queensland Derby and TJ Smith for two year-olds.
