Defending premiers Geelong  face the team that is considered by many to be the leading contenders for this year’s title looking to get their first win of the season after going down to the Dockers by four points in Fremantle last week. They will have to do it without fullback Matthew Scarlett, who serves the first week of a three game suspension for striking.

The Hawks  showed why they are the team to beat in 2012 with a dominant 22 point win over Collingwood in the opening round, amassing 137 points in the process.

Where It Will be Won – New Geelong skipper Joel Selwood  excelled in the middle of the field with 33 possessions against Fremantle last week and his battle with Sam Mitchell  around the clearances could go a long way to determining the outcome of the match. While the midfield battle looks to be an evenly matched one, the Hawks have a clear advantage up front, with Lance Franklin  the dominant forward in the competition.

Prediction – Despite their poor recent record against the Cats, Hawthorn can win here to assert themselves as the team to beat this season. The loss of Matthew Scarlett is a big blow for the Cats, and one that could be insurmountable for them. Hawthorn 1-39
