Nothing could split them in the ODI or Twenty20 series, but Australia  goes into 1st Test against the West Indies  as a strong favourite after winning six of their past seven matches in the longest form of the game. In their most recent series, Australia beat India 4-0, with skipper Michael Clarke  and Ben Hilfenhaus  starring. Shane Watson  is set to don the baggy green for the first time last November after missing the Australian summer through injury, while James Pattinson  is also in contention for a recall. With Brad Haddin leaving the touring party, Victorian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade  is set to make his debut.

The West Indies are yet to play a Test match this year but didn’t fare too well in 2011. They won only two of their ten matches last year. Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul were their standout performers with the bat, averaging 49 and 53 respectively, while Ravi Rampaul collected 31 wickets at 25 to be the best performed of the bowlers.

Last year’s rain marred match between India and the West Indies ended in a draw , but that was just the second draw in the past ten Test matches at the Kensington Oval.
