Willie is back. After two years in the wilderness having stinst at both Hull KR and dabbling in French rugby, Wille Mason returns to the NRL. The controversial former NSW and Australian representative pulls on the boots for Newcastle against Penrith in Monday night Football. In an added bonus for the Knights, skipper Kurt Gidley returns from injury and will be out to remind NSW selectors that he is fit enough to pull on a sky blue jersey.

The Panthers have been atrocious of late losing convincingly at the hands of manly and Wests in their two most recent outings. Fresh from a bye, Ivan Cleary will hope to reverse his clubs disappointing start to the season.

History – Newcastle has dominated Penrith in recent seasons. The Knights have won the past two games along with seven of the last ten against their opponents. Penrith can win in Newcastle, recoring two victories there in the past four games at Hunter Stadium.

Dangermen – Flying winger Akuila Uate has socred the game’s first try on three occasions this season and is in sincilating form for the Knights. Expect the return of Gidley to introduce stronger attack in the Knights backline. Panthers fullback Lachlan Coote had a blinder for City last weekend and will go searching for the ball early.

Prediction – Plenty is riding on this game for both clubs. Newcastle’s form has been patchy under supercoach Wayne Bennet while Penrith’s has been terrible under Ivan Cleary. It’s hard to go past Newcastle with the emotion surrounding Willie Mason and the return of skipper Kurt Gidley. Knights 1-12 .
