Gladstone family go on holiday and return home millionaires!

Monday 23 April, 2012 - A Gladstone family is suddenly $1,369,698.34 richer after buying a ticket in Saturday Gold Lotto while away on holiday.

The family explained that they returned home today and stopped in at a newsagency to have their ticket checked, completely oblivious to the fact they’d won a division one prize making them instant millionaires.

“My wife nearly collapsed when we were told our QuickPick entry matched the winning numbers and we had won more than 1.3 million dollars,” the husband said.

“I didn’t know whether it was still travel sickness I was feeling or nerves after getting such a shock!” his wife exclaimed.

The woman explained that she is not a weekly Saturday Gold Lotto player, but saw a Golden Casket outlet while away on holiday and decided to buy an entry.

“We were in a different place so we thought we’d give it a shot, and we got lucky!”

The family will take some time to think about how to spend their windfall, but are looking forward to celebrating the news with their extended family.

“Then we’ll start looking around for a new home,” they said.

The family purchased their winning entry from Nextra Marlin Coast News in Smithfield, Cairns.

The Gladstone family was one of three division one winners nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3209, with all three winners hailing from Queensland.

Golden Casket Public Relations Executive Zoe Knobel said it was a great weekend for Queensland Gold Lotto players.

“Three Queensland winners shared in a $4 million division one prize pool, meaning they’re all now millionaires!” Ms Knobel said.

The winning numbers were 1, 15, 16, 21, 28 and 2 with supplementary numbers 35 and 40.
