There has never been a City v Country game with so much on the line for so many different reasons. NSW state of origin coach Ricky Stuart has reinvented the annual clash opting to place a large emphasis on one-on-one battles. By far the most interesting matchup is between Jarryd Hayne and Todd Carney who lineup opposite each other wearing the number six jersey. Carney’s has impressed selectors since returning from the wilderness to inspire Cronulla to five straight wins. Hayne has

History – Country has had the upper hand on their City opponents in recent years, winning three from the past four games. City hold the upperhand long term having won three more games than their country opponents. Country secured a close win in last year’s clash thanks to a tearaway try to flying winger and now Australian representative, Akuila Uate.

Dangermen – Both teams possess an abundance of strike power in the backs, all of whom are capable of scoring long range efforts. The City boys will need to keep their eyes peeled on the Morris twins who line-up alongside each other for the first time in a representative arena. Panthers fullback Lachlan Coote pulls on the blue and gold for City alongside former Australian representative David Williams .

Prediction – Flip a coin, what a game! There are no less than 12 NSW state of origin jerseys on the line so expect the ball to be thrown around and some great skills on show. On paper it’s hard to go past City with their electrifying backline and Mitchell Pearce calling the shots at halfback. City 1-12 .
