All eyes will be on Australia’s newest representative James Tamou when he lines up for the Kangaroos to take on his native New Zealand on Friday night. Kiwi born Tamou has pledged his allegiance to the green and gold despite conjecture over his heritage before being selected following a blockbusting star to the season with the North Queensland Cowboys. In what is typically a fiery encounter, Tamou is expected to be heavily targeted by a large New Zealand pack.

Cameron Smith will skipper the Aussies in his 24th game for the Kangaroos. The Kiwis have named four debutants for the test including boom Warriors half Shaun Johnson and elusive Broncos fullback Josh Hoffman.

History – Australia have completely dominated the Kiwis over the years in the annual ANZAC test. The Kangaroos have won the past ten corresponding clashes, with the Kiwis last victory coming in 1998. The traditional rivals squared off in last year’s Four Nations tournament with Australia triumphing 26-12 thanks to a clinical display by Johnathan Thurston

Dangermen – Both sides boast numerous attacking weapons across the park with the likes of Slater, Boyd and Inglis for the Aussies and Nightingale, Hoffman and Johnson for the Kiwis. The most entertaining battle of the night could be on the wing with Manu ‘The Beast’ Vatuvei lining up opposite Akuila ‘The Thriller’ Uate.

Prediction – The Aussies are clinical when it comes to games like this. The Kiwis always play with pride and passion early on, however the class of Australia’s halves tends to shine through midway through the second stanza. Expect a low scoring fiery encounter. Australia 1-12 .
