Manchester United  can stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points with a win against Blackburn  on Tuesday morning (AEST). Title rivals Manchester City could manage only a draw  at home to Sunderland on the weekend meaning that the defending champions can open up a potentially decisive lead over their fierce rivals in the title race if they collect all three points. They are set to be without several key players for the match however, with Nani, Nemanja Vidic and Darren Fletcher all out injured, although Rio Ferdinand should be fit after being forced off with a back injury in last week’s 1-0  win over Fulham.

Blackburn have named the same team for their past three matches, but may be forced to make at least one change, with defender Gael Givet unlikely to recover from a hamstring strain in time to take his place.

When these teams last met on December 31, Rovers stunned United with a 3-2  win at Old Trafford, but they have not beaten the Red Devils at home in any of the past five league matches between the clubs. Despite being in a battle to retain their place in the top flight, Blackburn has lost only four of their past ten matches, while United are unbeaten in their ten.
