Chelsea  will defend their unbeaten home record in this season’s UEFA Champions League when they welcome Barcelona  to Stamford Bridge on Thursday morning (AEST). The Londoner’s have recorded five straight victories at home in the competition, scoring sixteen goals and conceding just two in the process. At the quarter final stage of the competition, Chelsea recording a 3-1 aggregate win over Benfica after a 2-1  victory at ‘The Bridge’ in the second leg.

Defending champion Barcelona cruised through to the semi-finals on the back of a 3-1  win over Milan at the Nou Camp two weeks ago. Argentine forward Lionel Messi has proven why he is widely regarded as the greatest footballer ever in the competition this season, having collected 14 goals in just nine matches.

Chelsea and Barcelona have met in European competition on ten occasions for three wins apiece, while four matches have ended in a draw . They did battle at the same stage of the competition in 2009, with the Spaniards advancing on away goals after a 1-1  draw in London.
