Defending A-League premiers Brisbane Roar  get their AFC Champions League campaign underway when they face Tokyo  at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday night. Brisbane go into the match off the back of a 1-1  draw with Melbourne Heart, after Mohammed Adnan missed an injury time penalty that would have given the club a fifth successive A-League success.

They take on FC Tokyo, who were J-League Division 2 champions in 2011, but gained a place in the Champions League through their 4-2  win over fellow second tier team Kyoto Sanga FC in the Emperor’s Cup – the Japanese equivalent of the FA Cup. Although the 2012 J-League season doesn’t start till this weekend, Tokyo has a game under their belt. They faced Kashiwa in the Fuji Xerox Super Cup on the weekend, going down 2-1 .

Despite being second last on the A-League table, Adelaide United  is also involved in the Champions League courtesy of their third place finish in the A-League last season. They open their campaign against Bunyodkor  in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
