Defending champion Joel Parkinson  will be out to defend that title that he won last year when the ever popular ASP event from Bells Beach starts on Tuesday April 3. The Gold Coast local has won in Victoria on three occasions and is one of the leading fancies for this year’s event, alongside eleven time world champion Kelly Slater , who first tasted success here in 1994.

Western Australian veteran Taj Burrow  defeated Brazilian Adriano De Souza  in the season opening event on the Gold Coast last month and will be determined to build on that success here, where he was a winner in 2007. There is a host of young guns waiting to knock Burrow and co off however, with the likes of Owen Wright  and Julian Wilson  knocking on the door.
