Australia Look To End Six Year Drought

Australia will bid to win a home ODI tri-series for the first time since the 2005/06 season when the finals series begins at the Gabba on Sunday afternoon. The three team competition format was replaced by a bilateral series for the past three seasons, but prior to that, Australia hadn’t tasted much recent success.

In the 2007/08 season, Australia, India and Sri Lanka took part in the competition and India defeated the hosts 2-0 in the finals series. A year earlier, England won the tournament by defeating Australia in the opening two matches of the finals. Prior to those defeats in consecutive seasons, Australia had emerged victorious in eight of the past nine summers.
