MCG Blockbuster Headlines Opening Round

The 2012 AFL season gets into full swing this week, with eight fixtures set to be played Thursday through to Sunday. Richmond  face Carlton  at the MCG on Thursday night in Melbourne’s first match of the year, before competition heavyweights Hawthorn  and Collingwood  go toe to toe at the ground 24 hours later. The Hawks will be looking for revenge against the Magpies after blowing a 17 point lead into three quarter time against the them before eventually being overrun in last season’s preliminary final.

The Melbourne Demons  host the Brisbane Lions  at the ‘G’ on Saturday afternoon, before the Suns  and Crows  do battle on the Gold Coast. On Saturday night, the Kangaroos  host Essendon , while defending Premiers Geelong  kick off the new campaign away to Fremantle . The Western Bulldogs  host West Coast  on Sunday afternoon and Port Adelaide  face St Kilda  at AAMI Stadium.
