Australia goes into game twelve of the Commonwealth Bank series on Friday, already assured of a place in the finals. Following their heavy loss to India on Tuesday night however, Sri Lanka must win to force their way in.
Australia has recalled fit again paceman James Pattinson to the squad at the expense of Ryan Harris, although he may struggle to get into the playing XI given the impressive form of Lee, Hilfenhaus and McKay. Skipper Michael Clarke sat out the match against India on Sunday with a back complaint and could replace David Warner in the side if selectors choose to give the opener a rest.
Despite their hammering at the hands of great rivals India on Tuesday night, Sri Lanka could field the same XI which had fared so well in the preceding four matches. Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara both struck centuries in Hobart on a good batting pitch but it was the bowlers that let them down. Lasith Malinga was particularly expensive in that match, going for over twelve runs and over, but he is also their leading wicket taker in the tournament and they would be loathed to leave him out.
These teams have met three times in the competition so far, with Sri Lanka winning the last two. They also won the last clash between the sides in Melbourne when recording a one wicket win in November 2010.
