World Champions James ‘The Missile’ Magnussen will be looking to make a statement to the rest of the world when he contests the 100m freestyle final at the Australian Swimming Championships in Adelaide tonight. The 20 year old qualified for the final in a time of 47.93 seconds to become the only man to go under 48 seconds this year, but is adamant that he will go even faster tonight, with a crack at the world record of 46.91 not out of the question.
Former world champion Jessicah Schipper is the red hot favourite for the women’s 200m butterfly, while Brenton Rickard qualified for the men’s 200m breaststroke final more than two and a half seconds quicker than anyone.
