The 2011/12 Surf Ironman series continues on Sunday, with the penultimate round of the season taking place at Coolum. Veterans Ky Hurst and Zane Holmes have already won this season and will be well suited to the pursuit format on the Sunshine Coast. The pursuit consists of three individual races – ski, board and swim- followed by a full ironman race, with the competitor who accumulates the most points across the day being deemed the winner of the round. 2010/11 series winner Shannon Eckstein is yet to win a race this summer but is sure to be competitive, as is current series leader Alistair Day .
In the women’s event, series leader Liz Pluimers is expected to go well, while Courtney Hancock will be looking to bounce back after winning the opening two races of the season prior to disappointing in the past two rounds. Kristy Smith has been ultra-consistent over the summer, with a win and two placings from the opening four rounds. She could go to the top of the series standings with another victory.
