Perth Glory will be confident of extending their unbeaten run when they host Gold Coast United at NIB Stadium tonight. Ian Ferguson’s men have won four of their past five matches and haven’t lost since going down to the runaway competition leaders Central Coast before Christmas. Perth hammered Adelaide United 3-0 away from home in their last match but will have to do without a number of key players for here. Evan Berger, Todd Howarth and Josh Mitchell are all missing for the hosts.
While Perth has been climbing the ladder, Gold Coast United has remained entrenched at the bottom. They have managed to draw only two of their past six fixtures and haven’t collected a win since defeating Brisbane 1-0 on Boxing Day. They managed a 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night. United are still a host of players that remain on the long-term injury list.
Perhaps surprisingly, Gold Coast has a good record in matches against Perth, having won on four of the seven occasions that the teams have met. Glory has registered just one win, a 2-0 success when the teams last met at this venue in December. With former Gold Coast players Shane Smeltz , Steve Pantelidis and Bas Van den Brink in the ranks, they will be determined to add to that solitary win.
